The Neuland Consort was founded in 2022 by a handful of gambists from Cologne. Since then, we have been pursuing the idea of using this niche instrument as widely as possible. As members of the ensemble, we are naturally united by a strong passion for early music. However, each of us also brings different musical backgrounds and cultural experiences to the table. These include 5 different countries of origin and a musical diversity ranging from classical music, freely improvised music and pop to traditional folklore and jazz.
Neuland Gambe
This self-image gave rise to the idea of a new, experimental festival format aimed not only at experts but also at children and amateurs. On 1 September 2024, we are organising Neuland Gambe - a festival for new and old viola da gamba music. What is surprising in view of Cologne's dynamic early music scene is that no comparable encounter between viola da gamba players had ever taken place before. We can therefore assume that Neuland Gambe filled a gap. In addition to the social aspect, there were artistic impulses that set the festival apart from the expected framework.
